The much-awaited interoperability of expressways managed by SMC Infrastructure and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. across Luzon is now finalized, with both companies officially unveiling the One RFID program on Tuesday in Calamba, during ceremonies attended by His Excellency President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

“We are proud to declare the successful integration of our electronic toll collection (ETC) systems, Autosweep and Easytrip. This new feature will directly benefit motorists registering for a new ETC account, as they will only need one radio frequency identification (RFID) and account to travel effortlessly across the Luzon expressway network,” the companies jointly stated.

The One RFID program includes all toll roads in Luzon, such as the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector, Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), and the STAR Tollway.

Enrollment in the One RFID program is optional. Motorists with existing separate Autosweep and Easytrip RFIDs and accounts may opt to join the toll interoperability program, but those who prefer to keep two distinct RFID accounts can also continue doing so, the companies added.

This initiative was launched by the government through the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), in line with their mission to enhance the efficiency of the nation’s expressway network.

The private operators have collaborated closely with government over the years to turn the vision of toll interoperability into reality.

“The journey to One RFID was challenging, demanding extensive efforts from all stakeholders. Both ETC providers made substantial upgrades to their current infrastructure to merge their systems, while carrying out thorough testing to guarantee smooth and seamless interoperability,” the firms explained.

With the interoperability project completed, the expressway operators said their priority now is rollout — making registration for the One RFID program easier and more accessible — along with ongoing system improvements to ensure a better overall experience for motorists on the expressways.

“We extend our gratitude to the leadership of the DOTr, headed by Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, and TRB Executive Director Jose Arturo M. Tugade for their unwavering guidance in bringing this project to completion. Their invaluable support helped us navigate the regulatory landscape, simplifying settlement procedures so motorists can enjoy a smooth and secure experience,” the companies remarked.

The tollway operators reaffirmed their commitment to supporting government initiatives, investing in world-class systems, and contributing to a better Philippines for everyone.

Here’s hoping to safer, faster & more hassle free travel for Filipino motorists & passengers!
