With the debut of the Perpetual Padellone, Rolex delivers a masterclass in micro-engineering: an instantaneous complete annual calendar housed within the refined, dress-oriented silhouette of its classic Perpetual collection. Named in homage to the legendary Reference 8171—dubbed ‘Padellone’ by mid-century collectors for its uncharacteristically broad 38 mm case footprint—this modern creation bridges historic complication design with the manufacture’s most advanced technical capabilities.

Beating at the heart of the Padellone is Calibre 7190, a self-winding mechanical movement protected by 30 patent applications, two of which are exclusive to this timepiece. Developed and manufactured entirely in-house, the ultra-thin calibre represents a major technical evolution of the high-frequency architecture first unveiled in 2025 on Calibre 7135. Operating at a rapid 5 hertz (36,000 vibrations per hour), it provides the foundational kinetic energy needed to actuate an array of calendar displays simultaneously at midnight without compromising chronometric accuracy or amplitude.

The defining technical breakthrough of Calibre 7190 is its patented Haplos annual calendar system. Where traditional annual calendar mechanisms rely on dense gear trains and multi-tiered lever assemblies to differentiate between 30- and 31-day months, the Haplos system achieves this through deliberate, elegant minimalism. It utilizes just two primary components coupled directly to the primary date mechanism: an additional carrier finger and an annual lever. The programming for variable month lengths is ingeniously milled onto the reverse side of the month disc itself, which continuously feeds mechanical information directly to the annual lever.

At precisely 00:00, the movement releases its stored kinetic potential, executing an instantaneous jump across the date, day, month, and moonphase indicators. Actuating four distinct mechanical displays in a fraction of a second requires immaculate energy control. To deliver the requisite force, Rolex re-engineered its patented silicon Syloxi hairspring. The hairspring fitted inside Calibre 7190 features specifically thickened coils, increasing its structural rigidity to yield the necessary power required for both a 5 Hz oscillation rate and the instant calendar jump mechanism.
Energy transfer is managed by the silicon Dynapulse escapement, a sequential distribution mechanism designed for maximum thermal stability, complete immunity to strong magnetic fields, and high power efficiency. Supported by an optimized barrel architecture, Calibre 7190 delivers a substantial power reserve extending to approximately 66 hours.

The oscillator itself is engineered to withstand rigorous daily wear. It pairs a high-technology ceramic balance staff with an optimized, non-magnetic brass balance wheel, creating an assembly virtually immune to magnetic interruption. The entire structure is mounted on high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, which enhance shock resistance and guarantee that the balance staff repositions itself perfectly to pivot smoothly in any orientation on the wrist.

Visually, this mechanical engine is enclosed within a 39 mm case guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 50 meters, available in 18 ct Everose gold or 950 platinum. The refined middle case features subtle chamfering along the top edges of the lugs, side-mounted correctors for calendar adjustments, and a divided bezel—domed on top and delicately fluted along the lower edge. A transparent sapphire case back offers an unobstructed view of the movement, highlighting bridges embellished with Rolex Côtes de Genève—distinguished by slight polished grooves between each band—and a skeletonized yellow gold oscillating weight.

The dial offers an exquisite study in legibility and texture. A grained central dial is bordered by a fine satin-finished date scale, tracked by a central blue hand tipped with a crescent moon.
