On 17 February 2026, the Chinese Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Fire Horse, the seventh sign of the Chinese Zodiac symbolizing power, speed, and confidence.

To coincide with this momentous occasion, Oris launched a 43mm stainless steel watch powered by its robust calibre 113—a sophisticated hand-wound movement boasting a 10-day reserve and a comprehensive business calendar displaying day, date, week, and month, recently debuted in the Big Crown Business Calendar.

The dial honors Chinese tradition with a deep red backdrop and golden highlights, colors emblematic of luck and prosperity. A 52-week calendar ring encircles the dial’s edge, pointed to by a gold-plated central hand tipped in pink. Below the weeks, the full month names appear between the applied indices flanking the 12 and 6 numerals.

Striking the dial are two sunken sub-dials at 9 and 3 o’clock, featuring a gradient from light center to rich wine at the edges. The small seconds and large date occupy the left sub-dial, balanced on the right by the power reserve, with the weekday window nestled in between.

Oris adds a playful touch to the power reserve indicator—two pink horses convey the remaining energy: a galloping horse at full charge and a resting one signaling the need to wind. This unique, patented countdown indicator, driven by a worm gear exclusive to Oris’s in-house movements, controls its smooth rotation around the dial.

Introduced in 2017 with the Artelier Series, Calibre 113 belongs to Oris’s calibre 100 family, launched in 2014 for the brand’s 110th anniversary. Designed as a practical, office-friendly movement, it integrates a business calendar.

The Year of the Horse’s steel case measures 43mm wide, 13.1mm thick, and 50.5mm lug-to-lug—ample size to showcase the calendar functions clearly. It features a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 50-meter water resistance. Without external correctors, all settings are managed via the crown.

Unlike recent Big Crown models, this edition returns to the Artelier’s original calibre 113 layout, omitting the railway minute track and placing the date window at 9 o’clock overlapping the seconds dial. Gold-plated needle-tipped hour and minute hands, baton markers with dots, and sub-dial hands enhance the watch’s elegance. The 34mm manual-winding calibre 113, visible through the caseback, operates at 21,600vph with two brushed bridges framing the large barrel and balance wheel.

Honoring the lucky Chinese number “8,” the Year of the Horse is limited to 88 numbered pieces. It pairs with a dark brown Shell Cordovan leather strap featuring a steel folding clasp, comes in a wooden presentation box. Sadly, it is officially unavailable in our market but avid watch fans should have no trouble finding one abroad. Priced at CHF 6,650, log onto oris.ch for more details.
