Malacañang, Manila, April 6, 2026 – Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced its plan to join the Philippine government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) during a meeting between President Marcos and Mitsubishi Motors CEO Takao Kato.

Pending approval of its EVIS application, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) intends to start producing a new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) at its Santa Rosa City, Laguna plant by mid-2028. Alongside the new HEV production, MMPC plans further investments to upgrade facilities for electrification, boosting the local supply chain and creating jobs in the area. Currently, the Santa Rosa facility is operating at maximum capacity of 50,000 vehicles annually. Entrance to the EVIS program will see that capacity expand to accommodate more vehicles.

At the meeting, Takao Kato stated, “The Philippines has been a key market for us with longstanding production and sales. We are proud to support vehicle electrification and industrial growth through the EVIS program, alongside the Philippine government, to help foster the nation’s economic development.” This development should create more employment opportunities to the local economy beyond Mitsubishi’s assembly activities, provide technology transfer to train and empower the local OEM supplier industries catering to the automotive industry and deliver more taxes to the country’s coffers for nation building.

As for the consumer, it should give Filipinos an affordable electrified vehicle that is proudly Philippine-assembled, helping push personal mobility to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future
