Some cars are purely about reaching a destination. The Denza B8 takes a distinctly different approach, treating the journey itself as an end worth savoring.

In a market where full-size luxury SUVs are expected to be imposing, powerful, and tech-laden, the B8 avoids feeling performative. Instead of leaning on superficial gimmicks, it focuses on effortless long-distance travel—operating less like a typical crossover and more like a high-riding, heavy-duty rolling estate.

British Cool Meets Heavy Hardware

Denza’s choice of Daniel Craig as its global ambassador feels like intentional brand positioning. Much like Craig’s understated yet formidable portrayal of James Bond, the B8 pairs quiet elegance with serious mechanical capability.

It looks sufficiently reserved to pull up to the valet at a five-star hotel in Makati, yet packs the hardware required to tackle broken provincial highways without hesitation.

Underneath the bodywork sits BYD’s proprietary DMO (Dual-Mode Off-Road) platform—a body-on-frame architecture designed to combine EV refinement with genuine mechanical toughness.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors, generating a massive combined output of 603 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque. Despite a substantial curb weight of 3,305 kilograms, the dual-motor powertrain propels this full-size SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 4.8 seconds.

Energy comes from a 36.9 kWh LFP Blade battery that supports 120 kW DC fast-charging and provides up to 115 kilometers of pure electric driving—ideal for daily city commutes. When paired with its generous 91.5-liter fuel tank, the total combined cruising range extends beyond 1,000 kilometers, effectively eliminating any long-distance range anxiety.

Hydraulic Finesse & Chassis Tech

Managing a 3.3-tonne vehicle demands sophisticated chassis engineering. Underpinning the B8 is BYD’s DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System, featuring double-wishbone suspension at all four corners with 140 mm of total vertical travel.

Unlike conventional air suspension setups that can feel floaty or slow to adjust, DiSus-P dynamically alters hydraulic pressure and damping at each wheel independently. It automatically lowers the vehicle at highway speeds to optimize aerodynamics and high-speed stability, or when parked to ease passenger entry.

Off-road or over harsh terrain, the system increases ground clearance, working alongside front and rear electronic locking differentials and an electronic “Leopard Turn” system that dramatically tightens the turning radius on loose surfaces.

The Real-World Test: Manila to Tanay

To evaluate its real-world road manners, I took the B8 on a weekend loop up through the elevation changes and mountain passes of Tanay, Rizal.

In Metro Manila’s morning traffic, acoustic double-glazed glass kept urban noise thoroughly isolated. Power delivery from the electric motors is silent and linear, making stop-and-go driving effortless. Once on open stretches, the hydraulic suspension absorbed bridge expansion joints and pockmarked asphalt with minimal body float.

As the road climbed toward Tanay’s mountain ridge, the B8 disguised its mass remarkably well. The hydraulic anti-roll control resists lateral body lean through corners, allowing the SUV to trace a confident line.

With the multi-point massage seats active and the 18-speaker, 800-watt Devialet sound system delivering crystal-clear audio, I arrived at a mountain cafe feeling remarkably refreshed—the drive felt less like a two-hour trek out of the capital and more like a quick run across town.

Executive Lounge Architecture

Measuring 5,195 mm in length with a long 2,920 mm wheelbase, the cabin is explicitly designed around passenger comfort.

Offered in either a 7-seat layout or a 6-seat captain’s chair configuration, the interior features soft Nappa leather, customizable ambient lighting, a head-up display (HUD), and integrated digital displays centered around a massive 17.3-inch UHD touchscreen.

Second-row occupants enjoy power-reclining ottoman seats, dedicated climate controls, wireless charging pads, and a built-in compressor refrigerator and thermal compartment that can actively chill drinks or keep meals warm.

There is real tactility, a sense of fine craftsmanship, not just massive tech overload that hides the fact that many products of similar origin are at the end of the day, cheap and mass-produced, devoid of quality and premium feel. The Denza B8 FEELS like a well. built, thought-out and well-engineered piece of kit.

Verdict & Philippine Market Context

Priced at ₱4.998 million for the Dynamic variant and ₱5.398 million for the range-topping Premium, the Denza B8 enters a segment long dominated by established icons like the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, the Nissan Patrol (check out our reviews on both these SUV’s)  and European rivals like the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The B8 doesn’t rely on heritage to make its case. Instead, it offers a compelling blend of real-world electric usability, immense performance, high-grade acoustic insulation, and advanced chassis technology with very good execution of what luxury should truly feels like. For premium segment buyers in the Philippines seeking an effortless, first-class cruiser, the Denza B8 stands as a serious contender that elevates expectations for modern luxury mobility.
